Honestly this shit ain’t funny anymore. Whoever is behind this is reaching their objective (whatever that is, maybe de-anonimization) if they keep doing that. Also that poor girl doesn’t even know her pictures are in the inbox of tens of thousands of users.

I wonder where they got all those pictures, is this some hacked camera? Or is she real but still a scammer, or what, when will someone do an investigation and a 1hour lon youtube video about it?!!

It might even be from one of the very first few live streaming sites, where you didnt stream a video but rather your Webcam would take pictures every 2 seconds and instantly upload them to the server.

Now, with this juice box we could for the first time have some clues regardin who the girl in the photo actually is and when/where the photos/videos were talen.

So based on the orange juice box it’s at the very least post 2003, but I believe it’s newer. I couldn’t find a reliable source on when or if this rebrand happened, but I think it’s the newer packaging of the juice box (look here for the newer one vs here for what I think is an old one literally just based off vibes and the fact that it showed up when I added 2013 to the search terms). You can see the difference in the way the point at the bottom of the Nicole picture is in the center of the front of the box.

I got my 2003 claim by looking at the logo and comparing it to this image listing the del monte logo rebrands. The box in the Nicole image and the newer Del Monte orange juice box has the shadow on the lettering not found pre-2003. They’re both using the 2003 to present one.

So basically I determined nothing of value.

Edit: what I thought was the old packaging appears to still be sold, at least in Toronto. I haven’t yet found a store in Toronto selling the packaging in the picture.

This is the kind of hard hitting investigative journalism I come to Lemmy for!

Well, it’s actually a good guess! Also, as another user asked, is this brand usually sold in the Toronto area?

Seems to be. Actually, what I thought was the old packaging seems to still be sold there too. By setting my location to Toronto on Uber eats and searching for it I found it at a local convenience store.

Is that juice brand actually something available in Toronto area? That could tell us more if she’s telling the truth or not

I believe that she either was frends with or dated someone and they used to have video calls. I’ve heard that the ‘livestream’ the message links into is a looping video of her, not sure if in a sexual context. So I think that the point here is revenge porn or cyberbullying.

It feels like they are getting new photos more often lately. When the scam first started they used the same like two photos a lot. Now it feels like there is multiple new photos just this week.

I wonder if this is to circumvent automatic blocks? They started including the text in the image for similar reasons.

No, I just remember seeing posts in Lemmy admin spaces about DB migrations used to block the text, not sure where.

Yeah I can see blocking text, but you are saying the new images are possibly to avoiding blocks. Which would require some image comparison / computer vision based detection, which I would be interested to read about if it existed.

It was a guess. I know pictrs has some functionality for that to block CP being uploaded to Lemmy instances, maybe look at the repo, that should have some info :)

I’m convinced this is just a giant troll. Has anyone tried clicking those links in a VM or something? Is it malicious? Or just fake lol.

It’s been reported to be real channels. A few weeks ago, the spammer asked for crypto money, but has stopped again.
